IMPT – Blockchain Carbon Credit Platform Case Study

IMPT is a Web3-based carbon credit platform developed to make ESG participation more transparent, verifiable, and accessible. The product enables users, enterprises, and investors to purchase, trade, and manage tokenized carbon credits through web and mobile experiences, while ensuring trust, traceability, and transaction integrity.

Given the regulatory sensitivity and trust-critical nature of ESG and carbon markets, the platform required not only blockchain expertise, but also long-term product continuity, architecture ownership, and stable delivery capacity. To support this, the client adopted an Offshore Development Center (ODC) model, building a dedicated engineering team that operated as an extension of the internal product organization.

Client Context

IMPT Client Context

IMPT operates in the carbon credit and ESG space, where transparency, auditability, and trust are essential. The platform targets a broad audience including enterprises, investors, and individual users who require confidence in how carbon offsets are issued, managed, and traded.

Because ESG and carbon credit products are highly reputation-sensitive, the system needed to deliver strong transaction integrity and traceability while remaining flexible enough to evolve with market feedback and product discovery.

Duration

Core Challenges

  • Managing a complex technology stack across blockchain, NFT, payments, and cloud infrastructure
  • Meeting ESG expectations around traceability, verifiability, and tamper resistance
  • Building a product quickly without accumulating long-term architectural debt
  • Compensating for limited internal Web3 ownership capacity on the client side
  • Maintaining trust and quality in a platform where errors can directly affect brand credibility

Initial Team Structure

  • 1 Project Manager
  • 1 Designer
  • 1 Blockchain Developer
  • 1 React Native Developer
  • 2 Fullstack Developers

Rather than acting as a task executor, the ODC team was embedded across:

  • Architecture design
  • Backlog refinement
  • Technical decision-making

This operating model ensured:

  • Strong knowledge continuity
  • Minimal handover risk
  • Long-term alignment between engineering and product direction
  • Faster iteration without repeated onboarding or reset cycles

Solution

The ODC team helped build the platform as a trust-first Web3 product, balancing technical complexity with long-term maintainability.

Key solution directions included:

  • Designing a scalable architecture that supports both web and mobile platforms
  • Building transaction flows with blockchain state validation and retry logic to increase reliability
  • Establishing structured engineering processes for testing, CI/CD, and release stability
  • Documenting architectural decisions to preserve knowledge beyond individual contributors
  • Supporting fast market-driven iteration while maintaining platform integrity

Because IMPT operates in a trust-critical environment, quality controls were embedded into the delivery process rather than treated as a final-stage check.

Key Quality Measures

  • Reliable transactions: Blockchain state validation and retry logic to reduce failure risk
  • Consistent delivery: CI/CD pipelines enforcing standards, testing, and deployment discipline
  • Durable knowledge: Architecture decisions documented to reduce dependency on individuals

This approach helped ensure that rapid product changes could be delivered without compromising stability, traceability, or engineering quality.

The platform was built on a modern, scalable stack capable of supporting Web3 functionality, multi-platform delivery, and operational growth.

Technology Stack

  • Frontend: ReactJS, React Native (Expo)
  • Blockchain Layer: Hyperledger
  • Orchestration & Scaling: Kubernetes, KEDA
  • Data & Messaging: PostgreSQL, Amazon SQS
  • Delivery Pipeline: Automated CI/CD

This foundation enabled the team to support both product evolution and operational resilience while keeping the architecture maintainable over time.

Outcomes & Impact

  • Live web and mobile platforms launched and operating since May 2024
  • Enabled transparent and verifiable carbon credit transactions
  • Built a stable, dedicated team with deep Web3 and ESG domain knowledge
  • Delivered fast iteration without reset, allowing market-driven product changes to be implemented on a stable technical foundation
  • Reduced handover dependency through better architecture ownership and documentation
